If you are looking for free entertainment for the kids, the naturalist has you covered. Come out to Gabrielson Park between 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, for an afternoon of fun activities. The naturalist will be on sight with all the supplies you need to go fishing as well as different activities and games to play.
They will have supplies for a make and take-home craft as well as snacks. Stop by for a bit or stay for the whole two hours. These activities are free of charge and designed for children ages 2 to 12. We ask that a parent or guardian stays with the child(ren).
Reservations required by Monday, June 16, at 4 p.m. by calling 712-295-7985. We will meet at the Gabrielson shelter house near Sioux Rapids.
Summer has started and so has Naturalist Lunch Box programs! Naturalist Lunch Box is held at noon on selected Fridays in the summer at Storm Lake Marina. Pack a lunch and join the fun! Naturalist Lunch Box is designed for all ages. The naturalist will present a short program on a selected topic and have hands on activities for younger audience members.
Friday, June 20 at 12 p.m. will be the next Naturalist Lunchbox. The topic for this week is frogs. The naturalist will discuss different types of frogs in Iowa and bring some live frogs with her!
Storm Lake Marina is located at 207 W. Marina Road, Storm Lake. If you plan on attending, please let the Conservation Office know by Wednesday, June 18, at 4 p.m. by calling 712-295-7985. This program can be canceled due to inclement weather or lack of participants.
Buena Vista County Conservation is announcing a new Nature Night series which will be held once a month this summer.
The first Nature Night will focus on birds of prey and summer constellations. The program is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at the South Area of Buena Vista County Conservation Park.
The program is set to begin at 8 p.m. with Luna, a barred owl, and Odin, a red-tailed hawk. These two live education birds will be on hand as participants learn about the raptors that rule the skies of Iowa.
At 9 p.m., everyone will head to the woods to call for the species of owls that nest in the park. If weather permits, there will be a lesson on the night sky, including the moon, planets and visible constellations.
Registration is required for this program. Contact the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985 by Wednesday, June 18, at 4 p.m. This program could be canceled due to inclement weather or lack of participants.
