Witter Gallery prepares for a barbeque competition with live art and entertainment Sept. 26

Witter Gallery is still recruiting chef contestants for the Witter Gallery Art-Bee-Que Cook Off, celebrating great food, local art, live entertainment and the power of the arts. We are still searching for cooks to fill our grill competition roster. The event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 26, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Chautauqua Shelter House in Storm Lake, with taste testing starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and are limited.

In addition to delicious food, local artists will also create original works of art during the event. The five artists who will be painting live during the event are Susan Briggs, Jack Huss, April Mason, Luis Guzman Montano and Amanda Price. The final art pieces will then be featured in a live auction benefiting Witter Gallery programs and initiatives. Other donated artworks by Esther Barahona, Matt Doebel, Eduardo Garcia, Karen Hixon, Brooke Petersen, Cindy Roth and Nikki Seaton, will be a part of the night’s silent auction.  Guests will enjoy live entertainment from Ball N’ Chain and The LugNuts throughout the evening.

This year’s cook-off challenge features a special twist: the secret ingredient is honey supplied by Harley’s Honey of Storm Lake. Cooks are encouraged to incorporate honey in their own creative way, showcasing unique flavors. Valentina’s Meat Market is donating the meat for the grills. If a chef is interested in competing, they can contact Patricia Hampton at 712-732-9272 or Julie Steinfeld at 712-299-3216 to sign up.

Taste testing begins at 5:30 p.m., with guests voting for their top selections. Awards and prizes will be presented to the first, second and third-place winners during a special ceremony at 7 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser will directly support Witter Gallery’s annual operating expenses, educational programming, exhibits and community art projects.
