William “Bill” Purvis, 80, of Early passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
William Allen Purvis was born June 27, 1944, to parents Charles and Mae Hoie (Dowdy) Purvis in Mayfield, Ky. He grew up with his family in various places including Kentucky, Montana and the Storm Lake area.
On June 7, 1969, Bill was united in marriage to Patricia Roling at Sacred Heart Church in Early. This union was blessed with two children, Allen and Jennifer. Bill was employed as a truck driver. He worked for Consumer Supply for 38 years followed by Noll Trucking for six years before he retired in 2006.
Bill had a love of the ocean. He collected seashells and enjoyed watching dolphins in their habitat. Traveling was one of his favorite things to do, especially to visit relatives. He was outgoing and loved to talk to everyone he met. He also enjoyed car shows. Bill and Pat were often seen at car shows with his 1940 Special Deluxe Chevy that he purchased from Pat’s dad. They went to area stock car races together. Bill enjoyed spending time with his relatives and friends. Many will dearly miss him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mae Hoie Purvis; parents-in-law, Donald and Irene Roling Sr.; brothers, Bobby Jo “Pete” Purvis and Edward Purvis; sisters: Delores Petersen, Phyllis Purvis, Judy Manning and Diane Peck; sister-in-law Elaine Roling; and brother-in-law Gordon Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Patricia of Early; children: Allen Purvis of Early; and Jennifer Purvis of Early; sister Charolette (Jerry) Solberg of Seymour, Wis.; sisters-in-law: Darlene (Robert) Noll of Early; Jeanne Jones of Bettendorf; and Cheryl Purvis of Newell; and brother-in-law Don Roling of Sioux Rapids; and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home has been entrusted to care for Bill and his family.
