Vivian Alma Davis was born on Nov. 14, 1936, on the family homestead near Newell the daughter of George Wayne and Lovicy Amelia (Clever) Davis.
She was baptized and confirmed at Assembly of God Church and later became a member of United Methodist Church.
Vivian attended grade school in Truesdale and graduated from Truesdale High School in May 1954. During her high school years, she was active as both a cheerleader and a basketball player.
On Aug. 28, 1955, Vivian was united in marriage to Harold Gene Sliefert at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Together they were blessed with four daughters: Rhonda, Valerie, Julie and Trina.
Vivian was a homemaker when her children were younger and then worked at Hy-Vee bakery until she retired in October 1998.
Vivian was the rock of her family. She faithfully supported her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in every activity she could. She generously gave her time to United Methodist Church, Girl Scouts and card clubs, always putting family and community first.
Family vacations and travel brought her great joy. Some of her favorite destinations included Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls — where she and Harold honeymooned — the Wisconsin Dells, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Myrtle Beach, Florida and especially Oahu, Hawaii, which was her favorite because of its uniquely beautiful landscape.
As a child, Vivian enjoyed roller skating and horseback riding. Later in life, she loved spending time at the racetrack with her husband, daughters and racing crew. The large post-race gatherings and weekend get-togethers became some of her most cherished memories.
Vivian had many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing — especially making outfits for her daughters — gardening, baking desserts for family, canning and making Christmas candies. She loved decorating the interior of her home and went all out for the holidays, playing cards, especially Flinch and 500, watching Dancing with the Stars, listening to George Strait and Daniel O'Donnell, and the peaceful sound of wind chimes. She was also an avid reader and loved reading Harlequin Romance story books.
The family home was the center of countless gatherings, always filled with delicious food, laughter and love. Vivian’s kindness, devotion and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
