Storm Lake boys basketball team selected as 2026 Star Spangled Spectacular Grand Marshal

The Star Spangled Spectacular Committee is proud to announce the Storm Lake Boys Basketball Team as the 2026 Grand Marshal for the annual Star Spangled Spectacular Parade on July 4.

The selection comes after several nominations were submitted by community members recognizing the team's positive impact both on and off the court. The team will be honored by leading the parade route through Storm Lake as this year's Grand Marshal.

2026 Commodores Tyler and Deidre Aube said the decision was an easy one after reviewing the nominations.

"The Storm Lake Boys Basketball Team represents what makes our community special," said Tyler and Deidre Aube.

"Not only have they found success through athletics, but they have also dedicated countless hours to serving younger students throughout our schools. They have become role models for our children and demonstrate what it means to give back to the community."

Throughout the school year, members of the basketball team have volunteered in elementary classrooms, reading with younger students, helping with schoolwork, encouraging academic success, and building meaningful relationships with children across the district.

The nominations highlighted the team's commitment to service and the positive example they set for the next generation.

Among the comments submitted by community members were:

"These young men have shown our children that being a leader means more than winning games. They take the time to encourage students, help them learn, and make them feel important."

"The basketball players are role models our kids look up to. Whether they're reading in classrooms or helping with school activities, they always show kindness and respect."

"Our students get so excited when the players visit. The impact they have on young children extends far beyond the basketball court. The Storm Lake Boys Basketball Team represents teamwork, character, and community service. They make Storm Lake proud every day."

"These athletes understand the importance of giving back. Their willingness to invest time in younger students is helping shape the future of our community."

The Star Spangled Spectacular Committee believes the team's dedication to service, leadership, and community involvement makes them a deserving choice for the 2026 Grand Marshal honor.

The Storm Lake Boys Basketball Team will ride in the Star Spangled Spectacular Parade on Saturday, July 4, as part of the community's annual Independence Day celebration.
