Juan Gonzales of J&B Construction in Storm Lake and his crew of 10 began reroofing the Buena Vista County Historical Museum Saturday morning. They raced to beat rain predicted Sunday.
Storm Laker Mike Frantz, a volunteer with the American Red Cross, hands a tarp and a rake to Kathy Rojo, whose roof was damaged by a falling tree. Frantz and Richard Wilson, also a Red Cross volunteer, used a Red Cross van from Ames to assist residents. They delivered cleaning kits, tarps, garbage bags and more free of charge. They made 17 deliveries Friday and at least 10 on Saturday.
Larchwood Drive suffered the loss of at least two larch trees.

Celia Garcia de Rosas and Alfonso Rosas, the senior couple in this photo, lost a giant evergreen in their front yard on East 10th Street. Here their children and grandchildren and the Storm Lake High School soccer team help cut the tree apart and remove it on Saturday afternoon. “Everyone just came together,” said the couple’s daughter Celia Rosas, beside Alfonso. The soccer team volunteered earlier at one of the parks.
The volunteers snuck in a bite to eat. Here Adrian Christensen of Laurens, enjoyed a burger. He was part of GoServ Global, the organization founded by Den DeYoung of Laurens in 2011 that helps disaster victims around the world.

Roofers from J&B Construction remove loose brick along the southwest corner of the roof at Buena Vista County Historical Museum. Museum staff are determined to save the building, which is on the National Historic Register. The workers put up barrier sheeting and will top it with asphalt shingles.
The Red Cross van traveled around neighborhoods asking people if they needed help Saturday morning.
GoServ Global volunteers brought equipment and teamed up with locals to clean up, here along Lake Shore Drive.
