Sheila Lucille Hartley was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Alta the daughter of Martin and Geneva (Warme) Hartley. Sheila attended grade school in Alta, eighth grade at Hayes School then graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1959. After high school, she continued her education at Buena Vista College for one year.

On Nov. 7, 1959, Sheila was united in marriage to Marvin Jesse at St. John Lutheran Church. Together, they were blessed with three children: Kevin, Deb and Chris.

Sheila was active on the farm helping with the row crops and pigs. When they were married, she had a horse and a dog; she loved riding and caring for her horse. Her daughter and granddaughters inherited her love of horses. There are still horses on the farm.

Sheila was an active member of Porkettes, Buena Vista County Extension Board, Historical Society and the Fellowship group at St. John Lutheran Church. Sheila felt blessed to be a part of the St. John Lutheran Church family. When she was 12, her father died the Saturday before she was to be confirmed so it didn’t happen, but it was a special event when she was baptized and confirmed, as an adult, on Dec. 31, 1959 at St. John Lutheran Church.

Sheila enjoyed traveling, especially to Chicago, Las Vegas, California and a cruise to Hawaii. She also cherished visits to Branson. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and gardening. Above all, Sheila treasured her family, who were her proudest accomplishment. Sheila was able to live out her life on the farm which made her very happy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Kevin (Deb) Jesse of Storm Lake; Deb Adolphson of Ames; Chris (Kathy) Jesse of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Shawn (Beth) Beilby of Manchester; Brooke (Damon Ortiz) Beilby of Forney, Texas; Tayler (Leah) Adolphson of Waukee; Nikki (Austin) Ulrich of Marana, Ariz.; Justin (Dayna) Adolphson of Ankeny; Rachael (Nick) Wilt of Auburn; Amy Jesse of Storm Lake; Zoey Jesse of Storm Lake; great-granddaughter, Dallas Lucille Ulrich; sister-in-law Carole Hartley of Milan; extended family and friends.
