Scott Wayne Foster, 68, was born on Nov. 7, 1957, in Waterloo to Robert and Coleen Foster. He lived in Parkersburg and Knoxville during his younger years. His family moved to Storm Lake in 1965 where his father worked as an Iowa State Patrol Pilot. In 1970, the family moved to a lake house in Lakeside. Scott enjoyed much of his teenage years boating and skiing on the lake. Scott graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1976. Upon graduating, he attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge in 1977-1978. He later graduated and received a degree in mechanical drafting.
During his 20 year drafting career, he was employed with various companies in Marshalltown, Storm Lake, Sioux Rapids, Pocahontas and Pella. In 2006, Scott decided to pursue his bachelor’s degree along with his wife, Mary Jo, and later graduated in 2009 with a degree in business management from William Penn University (Summa cum Laude).
In 1998, Scott chose a new career path in quality assurance and records management. He was employed with the United States Postal Service as a contractor and later worked with Constellation Energy, where he retired in 2024.
In his spare time, Scott enjoyed his many hobbies including hunting, fishing, boating and listening to music. He had a passion for cooking and barbequing smoked food along with being an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Scott was also incredibly handy, forever keeping a running list of home projects, thus tackling each one with determination and pride.
Scott Foster passed away on May 5, 2026, at the age of 68 at UnityPoint Hospital in Fort Dodge.
Scott adored his wife Mary Jo (Pella) more than anything, sharing 37 years of marriage. Together they raised their five children, including their son Jace and wife Jocelyn Foster of Ankeny; son Brett and wife Jessica Meyer of Lytton; daughter Kellee and husband Josh Smith of Carroll; daughter Kassie and husband Tyler Trenary of Ankeny; and stepdaughter Miranda Buettner of Sioux Rapids. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Juliette Foster; Ameila and Gavin Holt; Kellen and Danika Meyer; Paisley, Londyn and Maverick Trenary; Nixon and Madax Buettne; Grant Smith and his wife Taylor and their children, Foster and Noelle; Reed Smith and his wife Brandi and their child Ellie Jo; Stone Smith; Katie Smith; and Claire Smith; and many other family members and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; his parents, Bob and Coleen Foster; and brother Terry Foster. May they rest in peace.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Burial will take place in Ferguson Cemetery at Lake View.
