Richard Johnson

Richard Sidney Johnson, 87, of Le Mars, formerly of Storm Lake, passed away Sept. 30, 2025, at Accura Nursing Home in Le Mars.  

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with Rev. Matthew Martin officiating. A private family interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation with the family will begin at noon at the church on Saturday.

Richard (Dick), the son of Sidney and Mava (McCutcheon) Johnson, was born on Nov. 24, 1937, at his parent’s farm near Manilla. He received his education at Manilla Public School. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 5, 1955, to Aug. 25, 1958. He worked for several years at Sears Roebuck in Fort Dodge.

Dick was married to Beth Robson until 1968, and they had three daughters born to this union: Kris, Kelly and Kim. He was united in marriage to Norma Puhrmann at Zion Lutheran Church, Paullina, on Oct. 11, 1969.

He was involved in the carpet business for 45+ years and also owned and operated a furniture store in Albert City for seven years. He also had his own business, ProTech Inspection Service, a floor covering inspection service. Following his retirement, he worked part-time as a clubhouse attendant at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course in Storm Lake for several years and again in Le Mars at Willow Creek Golf Course.  

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Le Mars. He was confirmed on Dec. 14, 1969, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. He enjoyed golf, playing cards and dominos and putzing around on his computer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Norma; children: Julie Grantham and her husband Bob of Omaha, Neb.; Amy Rolfes and her husband Jason of Akron; Kris Johnson of Loveland, Colo.; Kelly Fuqua of Aurora, Colo.; Kim Hooper and her husband Jeff of Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren: Hunter and Brody Grantham, Emma and Brianna Rolfes, Brittney Ball and her husband Justin, Tyson Hart, Emilie Fuqua; three great-grandchildren: Aliyah, Hope and Adalynn Hart, two sisters: Doris Schreiber of Montgomery, Ala., and Marge Kramer of Ankeny; one brother, David (Sherry) Johnson of Ackworth, Ga.; sister-in-law JoAnn Johnson of Denver, Colo.; sister-in-law Marlys Fear of Olds; brother-in-law Larry (Cindy Moos) Puhrmann of Iverness, Fla.; brother-in-law Denny Unrau of Spirit Lake; as well as many other friends and relatives.  

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Mava Johnson; brother Duane Johnson; sister Phyllis Johnson; brothers-in-law: Gaylon Fear, Ed Schreiber and Alvin Kramer; sister-in-law Lorene Unrau; and parents-in-law, Ray and Alma Puhrmann.
