Mr. Goodfellow gets a good start

Nielsen: ‘There is definitely a need’

Posted

Mr. Goodfellow is off to a great start! In only one week $1,265 has been raised for the fund to provide coats, snow pants, boots, hats and gloves for Buena Vista County children whose families couldn’t otherwise afford winter outerwear.

Purchases have already been made at Headstart, Newell-Fonda Elementary, Alta Elementary and Albert City-Truesdale.

“We have some new students and there is definitely a need,” says Alta Elementary Counselor

Kara Nielsen. “We bought boots for 20% off at Bomgaars during a winter sale.”

She says the teachers help determine who gets the new boots. “We go ahead and provide for the ones (students) we know, but anybody is welcome to come in and ask.” If a student comes in with boots that are particularly “ratty,” she sees that a new pair is offered.

“We truly appreciate it,” she adds.

She thanks Mr. Goodfellow and we thank you, who make it all possible.
