Loretta Dorothea Peterson, 91, of Sac City, formerly of Linn Grove, died Dec. 10, 2024, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, rural Alta. Visitation will be held from 12-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Loretta Dorothea Stern was born June 25, 1933, in Albert City, the daughter of Albert and Faye (Antholz) Stern. Loretta attended school in Albert City. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Albert City. Most recently, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alta.
On April 8, 1951, Loretta was united in marriage to Carol D. Peterson in Albert City. They were blessed with five children: Cynthia, Janelle, Brent, Craig and Lisa.
Loretta and Carol worked side by side farming and tending to all the livestock on their farm. She loved to read books. In the summer months, she could be found gardening and tending to her flower beds. She was active in her church. In her later years, Loretta worked at H&R Block and Walmart in Storm Lake. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Cindy (Randy) Souder of Rockwell City; Janelle (Lou) Martin of Cummings, Ga.; Craig (Dana) Peterson of Marietta, Ga.; Lisa (Kevin) Martin of Pocahontas; daughter-in-law Lorinda Peterson of Alta; brothers, Lester Stern and Layton (Carol) Stern; sisters: Lenona (Thom) Griener, Laurinda (Fred) Bauman and Lanita (Marshall) Sondrol; grandchildren: Chris (Kristen) Souder, Melissa (James) Wright III, Lindsey R. Peterson (Adam Bockelman), Jayden Peterson, Michael Beatty (Tracy), Wayne (Lora) Peterson, Alyssa (Stephen) Peterson-Dewitt, Stephanie (Steve) Hein and Nathan Martin; great-grandchildren: Ashley Souder, Katie Souder, James Wright IV, Jarrell Wright, Betti Peterson, Veronica Peterson, Charles Peterson, Henry Hein and Walker Hein; extended family and friends.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Carol Peterson; son Brent Peterson; parents, Faye and Albert Stern; brothers, Leroy Stern and Larry Stern; sisters: Luella Sievers, LaVonne Rosdail and Lorna Bielke; siblings-in-law: Lyle Rosdail, Paula Stern, Renee Stern, LaVerne Sievers, William Bielke and Hilda Stern.
