Letters to the Editor: Selling water to Heinold Hog Markets

Posted

It makes no sense to be considering adding more demand to the city water supply. The city has voluntary water conservation measures in effect with the possibility of mandatory water conservation. The current water plant is reaching its limit on the hot days according to a recent post by the city.

The common sense answer is not to add more demand, especially when it is located outside of the city limits. It would be a different situation if the city had a surplus of water. However, I still would not be in favor of adding agricultural sites to the city water system. What happens if this company decides to expand? What happens if the amount of water this company needs is in excess of what they are asking for? Where does that leave the citizens of Storm Lake?

The selling of city water to an agricultural company outside city limits should not be the city's priority at this time.

This company applying for city water could install their own water system. It would be cheaper in the long run for them to do so.

I see no reason to consider adding more demand on the city water treatment plant when you are asking residents to conserve water.

The Statue of Liberty is weeping

We all should be weeping.

Detention centers and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) are being funded to brutally round up people and cruelly keep them imprisoned. Sons, brothers, uncles, fathers, and grandfathers are being picked up and put in cages to wait for something to happen — indefinitely with no due process and no rights. Often they are people who have been recruited to work here, and they are not criminals. The police and courts would protect them and more people would protest if these innocent people were animals being abused.

We have to admit this is a mistake and correct it now before it gets even worse. Let me know if there is something I can do other than write letters and donate money to the brave people who are trying to help.

Think again

If people think that Trump’s “rules” apply only to people not born here, those Trumpers need to think again. All my credit cards must be changed (or I lose them) to show not my initial and middle name, but my first name only.  This despite the fact that other people think they know how to spell my name better than I do and I get all kinds of papers, legal and otherwise, with the name Roy or maybe Kay.  Thank you everyone who voted for this dictator.

Proclamation for water

Will someone ask Governor Reynolds if she would issue a disaster proclamation for Polk County based upon our poor water conditions?

Cancel culture

The Iowa Legislature has passed a “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Act” forbidding any use of these words or discussion of goals toward those ends. Hmm? Sounds a lot like cancel culture to me. What's next? An act forbidding fairness, justice and truth?

People power

I'm sure that math teachers are trying to but it's not getting through. I guess young people don't care and old people like me must be diminished. They say rich people make up 1% then the rest of us working people are 99%. Each person gets one vote. The last I knew 99% was 99 times more powerful than 1%. If your politician is catering to the rich and not you then VOTE THEM OUT! If you're as fed up as I am show them. People have the power. That's Democracy — save it!
