Congrats to the winner of your annual cover art contest! One detail I noticed that wasn’t mentioned in the copy that ran alongside the artwork was the artist’s byline which included his middle initial. You say Cooper Hahn received $25 for his commission? Maybe the J stands for Jackpot!

You can’t be serious

Here we are starting a new year, ready to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary.

America is the nation that established itself by rebelling against a system of monarchy in Europe that kept that continent in the Dark Ages for 1,000 years.

And now today, 250 years after 1776, America is not learning about and celebrating our amazing democratic founders and our amazing republican Constitution as we should be doing.

Instead, we are celebrating the handing over of our sacred nation to its first king, a king much worse than England’s George III. George allowed Parliament to do its duty long ago, while Trump says no to Congress’ duty today.  

That makes this country one of the most backward, hypocritical, and misguided nations on planet earth in 2026.

Funny thing is, everybody everywhere knows how backward America has become, except a large and gullible minority of our own citizens.
