On April 26 our beloved family member, Rebecca Rassler, passed away. On April 29, we held a funeral procession that traveled from Storm Lake through Newell and on to her final resting place in Pomeroy.
During this solemn journey, our family experienced a moment of profound kindness that we will never forget. As we passed through Newell, a gentleman who was mowing his lawn stopped his work, stood respectfully and paid his silent tribute to Aunt Rebecca. This simple yet powerful gesture deeply moved us all.
In a time of grief, such acts of compassion and respect can provide immense comfort. We were touched beyond words by this man’s acknowledgment of our loss. If I could have stopped and hugged him, I would have.
To the gentleman who paused his day to honor our procession, please know that your kindness did not go unnoticed. You provided a moment of solace in our sorrow, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Yesterday, the neoconservative David Brooks wrote this in an OpEd in the NY Times, “Trumpism… is primarily about the acquisition of power — power for its own sake. It is a multifront assault to make the earth a playground for ruthless men, so of course any institutions that might restrain power must be weakened or destroyed. Trumpism is about ego, appetite and acquisitiveness and is driven by a primal aversion to the higher elements of the human spirit — learning, compassion, scientific wonder, the pursuit of justice. … What is happening now is not normal politics. We’re seeing an assault on the fundamental institutions of our civic life, things we should all swear loyalty to — Democrat, independent or Republican.
“It’s time for a comprehensive national civic uprising. It’s time for Americans in universities, law, business, nonprofits and the scientific community, and civil servants and beyond to form one coordinated mass movement. Trump is about power. The only way he’s going to be stopped is if he’s confronted by some movement that possesses rival power...”
I’m really not a movement guy. I don’t naturally march in demonstrations or attend rallies that I’m not covering as a journalist. But this is what America needs right now. This call to take our government back from a megalomaniac needs to be broadcast around the world. To ignore this warning is like being complicit to the biggliest power grab ever perpetrated upon our democracy.

Treatment in Place (TIP), Community Paramedicine (CP) and Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) center on the premise of right care, right place, right time. It's patient-centered and evidence-based to provide the best care possible for preventive and non-emergency situations. Providing care to patients in the comfort of their home or other setting, as opposed to the emergency room for even the most minor of conditions, would not only match patient need to the right option of care but also save our nation’s healthcare budget billions! The proof is in the data and many EMS agencies have it, but we need to ensure the benefits are seen by sharing them and sharing our experiences. TIP will also ensure that EMS agencies get paid for much of the care we provide today in the home that is unreimbursed.
Protect your community services and your patients’ access to EMS medical care
Congressional Budget Reconciliation is happening now, and members of Congress are considering reducing Medicaid spending and other harmful healthcare policy changes. Communities across the nation rely on EMS services to care for their sick, injured, elderly and disabled populations. Medicaid is the first or second largest payer for most ambulance services, especially in rural and underserved communities. Cuts to Medicaid leave states very few options to meet their communities’ health care needs. Your help is needed! Please ask Congress to sustain the critically important funding that enables EMS to care for our communities. Urge that Congress does not reduce Medicaid funding for EMS agencies, many of which are already challenged with severe workforce and economic conditions.

While Donald Trump has successfully shut down the Biden open border which allowed 8-10 million illegal aliens into our country, and trying to deport as many as he can; the fact remains that executive orders such as birthright citizenship need to be addressed by Congress.
Part of the 14th Amendment, passed in 1868, shortly after the Civil War, was designed to ensure that children of slaves would be considered citizens. Given the time, it was a necessary amendment and the right thing to do.
Of all the developed Western nations, only Canada and the United States recognize birthright citizenship
When passed I'm sure it was never envisioned that it would provide birthright citizenship to a child born of illegal immigrants who just crossed the border into the United States.
Consider if you were traveling to Italy or Ireland, and your wife gave birth to your baby, would it seem logical that your baby is a citizen of Ireland or Italy?
Of course not, that is nonsense.
Congress must pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill, that eliminates birthright citizenship, chain migration, visa overstays, the Flores amendment, mandating E-Verify, and a merit-based immigration system.
Our country has a moral obligation and a legal duty to do so.
