Funeral Services for Leland C. Galvin, 88, of Aurelia will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta with Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24, from 5-7p.m. with the family present at the church. Burial will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, with military honors by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia. Memorials may be given to Cherokee Regional Hospital Hospice and Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta.
Leland Clifton Galvin was born on June, 4, 1936, in Cherokee, the son of Charles and Lillian (Wunschel) Galvin. He attended schools in Alta, Aurelia and graduated from Highview School in 1955. On Sept. 29, 1958, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served until Sept. 30, 1960, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist E-4. Leland married Sandra Mason and to this union four children were born: Richard, Rebecca, Corey and Curtis. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
Leland farmed for a couple of years, then worked construction for four years, he was employed at Wilson’s Plant in Cherokee for 11 years until becoming a custodian at the Aurelia school for 21 years, retiring on June 4, 1999.
He was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. He loved carpenter work, gardening, fishing and walking. His favorite thing was attending his grandchildren’s events. They were the pride and joy of his life.
Leland died peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Accura Health Care in Aurelia, with his devoted family by his side where he had been a resident since Jan. 31, 2025.
Preceding Leland in death were his parents; four brothers: Charles Jr., Paul, Don and Larry; five sisters: Alice Peterson, Betty Erickson, Deloris Brisbois, Jean Neville and Bonnie Raper.
Surviving Leland are his four children and their families: Rich (Doris) of Bardstons, Ky., and children: Jade (JB), Haley, Kymberly (Joseph), William (Jennifer), Josh and Ashley. Rebecca (Vaughn) Ihlen of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children: Nathaniel, Brooklynn (Ryan), Amber. Corey of Storm Lake and his children: Jordan, Brerin, Brianna, Brian, Madison, Allison and Jayden. Curt (Mirna) of Storm Lake and their children: Amberlee (Michael), Herbert, Melissa (Uriel) Genesis and Gaby; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bob (Ardiss) Galvin of Aurelia; and Garold (Ila) Galvin of Alta; three sisters: Carol (Bernard) Peterson and Pat Peterson all of Aurelia and Sandy Zimmerman of Sac City; sister-in-law Sharon Galvin; many nieces and nephews and also other relatives and friends.
