Hillbillies ahead

Storm Lake native and fiddler Joe Cullen comes back to the area with the band Mountain Sprout, performing Friday, Aug. 1, at Byron’s in Pomeroy. The vocal and acoustic band from Eureka Springs, Ark., mixes bluegrass with a variety of influences. With song titles like “Dry Counties,” Tweeker” and “Police Come,” get ready for highly energetic hillbilly music. Mountain Sprout plays around 250 shows a year, including music festivals, concert halls and backwood hole in the walls. Cullen, far left, started with the band in spring.
