Fredericka Pauline Gunter was born at home on Sept. 24, 1923, to John and Harriet (Ware) Gunter on a farm in Longford, Kan. After high school, she went to nurses training to become an RN. She married her high school sweetheart, Calvin Binder, in 1944 before he left for Europe in WWII. When he returned, they farmed in Kansas. They were blessed with four children: Marilyn, Bill, John and Scott.
In 1953, they moved to Northwest Iowa to farm and spent over 56 years in Greenville, Rembrandt and Alta. She stayed busy as a mother, farm wife, nurse and with many organizations and activities.
In later years, Freda and Calvin spent many hours in their motorhome touring the country. In 1998, they left Iowa and moved back to Kansas for five years before moving to Georgetown, Texas. In 2014 they both moved into a nursing home in the area. Freda and Calvin were able to celebrate their 75th anniversary before he passed. Freda never met a stranger and made friends easily. She leaves many friendships behind, old and new.
