Fernetta was born Aug. 8, 1926, to Sydney and Nora Jeckell. Her early years were spent on a farm in Lamberton, Minn. Her family moved to Sac City, where she graduated from high school. After high school she moved to a farm north of Odebolt with her parents and younger brother. This is where she and Wayne met. Wayne and Fernetta were united in marriage Dec. 7, 1944. They welcomed home a daughter, Rosemary, and a son, David.
Fernetta was a member of United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and held many offices in the UMW. She also belonged to the Mr. and Mrs. Club in the church.
Fernetta helped when needed on the farm, which include unloading corn, milking cows and preparing meals for anyone around at meal time.
She was very artistic. Fernetta could hear a song and go to the piano and play it never having a lesson. She painted several pictures. She loved playing cards such as bridge, euchre, pinochle and 500. She spent many hours at a sewing machine. She made dresses for Rosemary and shirts for grandsons, quilts, jewelry bags, casserole carriers, devotion pillows, decorative pillows and banners for the church, along with repairing clothes for anyone who needed it. She also made a set of paraments for the Congregational Church in Aurelia.
Fernetta helped start the Cook-Go-Getters Girls 4-H club in her basement.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and then the great-great-grandchildren. She attended many sports activities that they were involved in.
