Evelyn was born on Nov. 8, 1928, to Gus Carl Dallman and Lydia Amelia (Friedrich) Dallman at Lakeview Memorial Hospital in Stillwater, Minn. She was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estherville. Her family moved to Storm Lake and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. Evelyn attended Storm Lake High School, graduating with the class of 1946. After graduation, she was employed at a commercial printing shop in Storm Lake.

Bill and Evelyn moved to Alta in 1952, where Bill owned and operated the Alta Body Shop and Evelyn worked in the office. When their son and daughter-in-law took over the business, Bill and Evelyn enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe or taking cruises. They wintered for nine years in Mesa, Ariz., and 10 years in Tucson, Ariz. They traveled to Europe to tour the places of the life of Martin Luther, including seeing the Passion Play in Oberammergau.
Faith and church were important to her life. Evelyn was a member of the Alta St. Paul Lutheran Church, working with the Altar Guild and the quilting group. She was a long time Sunday school and Bible school teacher and also taught the younger confirmation classes at her church.
Family was also a big part of Evelyn’s life and she enjoyed family gatherings and visits. She liked all kinds of music, dancing, cooking and baking, crafts and art work. Evelyn also enjoyed crossword puzzles, yard work and cards. She established a yearly nursing scholarship at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
