Skoog was born on Nov. 11, 1949, in Cherokee, to Nathan and Eloise (Patee) Anderson. He attended Alta High School and went on to study at Estherville Junior College. Skoog proudly served his country as a member of the Iowa Army National Guard from 1969-1975.

Skoog was deeply involved in his community. He served on the Alta Golf and Country Club Board, Buena Vista County Compensation Board and Elk Township Cemetery Board. He had a lifelong love for sports of all kinds, especially golf, cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones, and most of all, watching his grandchildren participate in their many activities.

Skoog will be remembered for his humor, dedication and the way he loved wholeheartedly.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Anderson of Alta; sons, Cory Anderson of Alta and Chris (Steph) Anderson of Oakland; sisters: Jone (Bob) Meredith of Alta; Jene (Rich) Robinson of Storm Lake; Roger Radke (Lynn) of Alta; and Jill Ryherd of Macon, Mo.; and grandchildren McKaelyn Anderson of Storm Lake; Carter Anderson of Ames; and Breyer, Bree and Barrett Anderson of Alta.
