He attended Marathon Consolidated School, graduating in 1957. He then attended Nettleton School of Business in Sioux City.

Dwaine enjoyed attending car races, which helped foster his nephew's love for the sport. Dwaine also liked to bowl and play cards with his friends. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours at the Sioux Rapids Golf Course with friends until he was in his 60s. Dwaine loved cars and was known to be meticulous with the care of them having owned at least 28 various vehicles during his lifetime. Dwaine is remembered as a very kind and generous man who loved visiting with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
