This summer brings the first anniversary for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Sac County. Almost half of the eligible children in the county have been registered and are receiving free books in their mailboxes every month. First Christian Church in Sac City is the local non-profit partner with the Dollywood Foundation. Both partners are essential to make the Imagination Library available to all children from birth to age five. To celebrate this first-year milestone, First Christian Church and local libraries across the county are sponsoring a Dolly Day in each community.
The Dolly Days have two purposes. The first is simply to celebrate the occasion with fun and food. Activities will include story time, balloon animals, Dolly time with coloring pages and photo opportunities, door prizes and party refreshments. The second purpose is to provide a fast and easy way for families to register children ages 0-5 who are not currently receiving the Dolly Parton Imagination Library books in the mail. The books are free to families who register their children. The Imagination Library has research results that demonstrate the importance of this program in developing early reading and learning skills in young children. All young children in the communities are invited to attend, along with their parent, family member or care provider. Registration forms will be available and can be completed during the Dolly Days so that kids can start receiving books this summer.
Schedule for Dolly Days throughout Sac County:
“We hope to celebrate our early success in launching the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Sac County at each of the Dolly Days this summer,” said Rev. Mark MacWhorter, minister at First Christian Church. “More importantly, we want to expand the number of registered children who are receiving free books,” he added. All the individuals and groups who have made financial donations to help support the Imagination Library are also invited to come enjoy the celebration.
