Dewey Earl was given life by his Creator and was born on March 24, 1943, in Coon Rapids, the child of Harry and Jessie Betts. On Dec. 30, 1965, he received the gift of Holy Baptism, and he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Jan. 16, 1983, receiving the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood.

He and his wife Denise were married on April 30, 1982. They were blessed with the gift of children: Brad (Joni), JoEllen (Fred) and Kristi and Ky (Amy); nine precious grandchildren: Jessica and Matthew, Paige and Jordan, Carrie (Caleb), Katie and Kelsie, and Nora and Alfred; and two great-grandchildren, Callie and Casey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his four siblings: Raymond, Geraldine, Icil and Dwight; and son Brad Betts on Nov. 20, 2025.

Dewey loved to fish and have fish fries and was happy to share his catch with friends and family. He was also an avid golfer. It didn’t matter what time of the year it was; if a course was open, chances are he’d be playing. When the weather didn’t permit, he’d enjoy playing cards, shooting pool or rooting for the Hawkeyes on TV. He was not a man to sit still. He stayed busy mowing, finding projects to improve their home and even working on mundane tasks like washing said house! He loved to go car-hunting, always on the lookout for a good deal for himself or whoever needed a reliable car.

God blessed Dewey’s life with many special people as he served God in his vocations at home, church and work. On Dec. 27, 2025, God blessed him with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord for our brother Dewey.
