DC’s tough-on-crime criminal

Posted

President Donald Trump seized control this week of the Washington, DC, police force, ordering the military and FBI to patrol the streets to stop a supposed crime wave in our nation’s capital. It’s ludicrous.

We have been to Washington many times over the past dozen years to visit family and friends, and have never witnessed any criminal activity (except in the halls of government). There is so much law enforcement there already that you can’t walk a block without tripping over a cop. There’s the Metropolitan Police Department, U.S. Park Police, Capitol Police, FBI Police, Secret Service Police and U.S. Marshals, all of which already patrol throughout the nation’s capital.

I think Washington is already our nation’s most beautiful city, even surpassing San Francisco. Unfortunately, there are some people who are homeless, but their only crime is being unlucky. What Trump will spend on the National Guard patrolling DC could easily take care of these poor folks forced to live outside.

Crime in DC is at a 30-year low and is continuing to drop every year.

It’s laughable that Trump, the only president who is a convicted felon, rails about criminals taking control of DC. He ought to know. He’s the biggest criminal in the city, with 34 felony convictions for fraud and huge multi-million dollar judgments for sexual assault and defamation. He’s implicated by his association with sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein (who described Trump as his “best friend”) and Ghislaine Maxwell, serving a 20 year federal prison sentence. (Don’t think Trump is a sex fiend? Watch the “Access Hollywood” tape again.)

Trump has also been ordered by courts to pay judgments totaling $25 million to students who got cheated in his crooked Trump University scheme a few years back, he and his father were nicked for housing discrimination in their New York apartment buildings in 1973, and in 2019 Trump was fined $2 million and New York State closed down his so-called “charitable” foundation after he was found to have misused charitable funds to benefit himself.

Trump also failed to note this week that he was responsible for the most violent uprising in DC’s history on Jan. 6, 2021, when thousands of his followers stormed the Capitol. Five cops died and 140 were injured in Trump’s unsuccessful attempt to overturn the 2020 election. When Trump re-took office this January, he pardoned more than 1,000 of those jailed cop-killers and fired the FBI and Justice Department officials who brought these rioters to justice.

Trump tried to seize control of Los Angeles law enforcement a couple months ago in a quest to run all the immigrants out of the country (except two of his wives), and now he’s suggesting he may take over the law in other cities including New York, Baltimore and Chicago.

If he was serious about reducing crime, Trump would support gun control. That would be unconstitutional, you say? That little restriction hasn’t bothered Trump in other unconstitutional matters, like having military enforce laws within the USA. Keep guns out of the hands of crackpots and you’ll reduce violent crime by 75%. Schools, churches and shopping centers won’t have to be armed fortresses.

My thoughts printed here may not make a difference, but we can’t stand by and say nothing while Trump ruins this great democracy with his lies and corruption. Our father put his life on the line for four years during World War II, fighting to defeat tyranny in Europe so it wouldn’t spread here. I have to do something to honor the sacrifice of Dad and millions of others of the Greatest Generation, even if it’s just a few words in a country weekly.

Where are statesmen like FDR and Eisenhower when you need them?
