Cyndi Hatch, 74, of Early passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, with family by her side.

Cynthia Lou Nehring was born Nov. 13, 1950, one of nine children, to parents Wendolin and Evelyn (Sievers) Nehring in Buena Vista County. She attended school in Albert City, and later obtained her GED.

Cyndi spent a lot of time during her teenage years caring for her beloved nieces and nephews. She was the “fun” aunt they all loved and she loved them just the same. She worked for a local photographer and was a photographer herself. Over the years, she captured many memories on film for her family members and friends.

Cyndi would eventually meet her husband, Rick Hatch, on a blind date. The two married on Oct. 11, 1987, in Newell. This union was blessed with two children, Michael and Amy. Rick and Cyndi enjoyed spending time together attending Iowa Hawkeyes games, going to casinos, fishing and spending time by the lake. Cyndi’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was such a wonderful, loving mom and grandma. When Mike and Amy were growing up, their house was full of neighborhood kids as Cyndi was always so good about giving out snacks and keeping the fridge stocked for all of them. She was like a second mom to many.

After her children headed off to college, Cyndi stayed busy by becoming a caretaker for many local elderly residents. She helped them clean, paint, take them to appointments and so much more. She cared for and treated each and every one of them like family. Often times she would just get together with them for coffee and conversation as she truly enjoyed their company and she knew what it meant to them as well. Cyndi had an infectious smile and her laugh often times filled her beautiful blue eyes with happy tears. She was a one of a kind gal who went above and beyond to help others, always. Cyndi cleaned and cared for Early United Methodist Church and the local bank for many years as well.

In 2018, Cyndi was blessed with the title of grandma, when her grandson Cole was born. Later came two beautiful granddaughters, Presley and Bristol. Any time spent with her grandchildren was cherished; she was so proud of them!

Sadly, at the age of 68, Cyndi’s health began to decline due to Alzheimer’s disease. Rick, being the devoted husband he is, cared for her at home for many years before she was moved to a care facility in Holstein. She then moved to Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Her passing leaves a void in many hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Rick Hatch of Early; son Michael Hatch of North Liberty; and daughter Amy (Justin) Mason of Nemaha; grandchildren: Cole, Presley and Bristol Mason; six siblings; many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Cyndi was preceded in death by her parents, Wendolin and Evelyn Nehring; parents-in-law, Cecil and Elma Hatch; brother Garland Nehring; sister Karolyn Halverson; sister-in-law Kathy Hardy; and other extended family members.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Holstein Senior Living, Park View Rehabilitation Center and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care Cyndi received over the years. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations received will go towards a donation in Cyndi’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, from 2-4 p.m. at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Sac City has been entrusted to care for Cyndi and her family.
