As the legislature pushes through to the first funnel deadline on Feb. 20, we are starting to have more in-depth conversations on the budget and tax reform.
The House, Senate and Governor’s office have all introduced their proposals — and did so in the first few days of the legislative session. This has allowed the public time to contemplate the ramifications of the proposals while the legislature turns its focus on policy bills in anticipation of the policy funnel deadlines.
So what do these proposals look like? How do they compare? Pictured above is a quick chart for comparison.
As the weeks progress we will negotiate out the end result. It will probably end up a mix-up of all three proposals, plus what we’ve heard from Iowans over the last several weeks. I am excited to continue this process and find a workable, real resolution.
The next Storm Lake Legislative forum will be held Saturday, March 28, at 12:30 p.m. at King’s Pointe Resort. Contact Megan Jones by email: megan.jones@legis.iowa.gov
