BVU to host author of ‘Firekeeper’s Daughter,’ Angeline Boulley

Posted

Join Buena Vista University for a special presentation by author Angeline Boulley on Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium.

Boulley is an Anishinaabe author dedicated to telling contemporary stories by and about Indigenous girls and women. As noted on her website, she was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. (Bahweting), shaped by strong Anishinaabe women and her father, a traditional firekeeper who shared cultural teachings through story. Before becoming a full-time author, Boulley built a distinguished career in Indian education, serving at the tribal, state, and national levels, including the Director of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Indian Education.

In this powerful novel, Firekeeper’s Daughter, Daunis Fontaine, a biracial Ojibwe teen who has never quite fit in, is drawn into a criminal investigation after witnessing a shocking murder. As she goes undercover to protect her community, she must navigate loyalty, identity, and the cost of uncovering the truth, as described in the book’s description.

Join us in the evening on April 13 as Boulley shares insights into her life, her writing journey and her award-winning novel Firekeeper’s Daughter.
