If you are looking for free entertainment for the kids, the naturalist has you covered. Come out to Gabrielson Park between 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, for an afternoon of fun activities. The naturalist will be on sight with all the supplies you need to go fishing as well as different activities and games to play.
We will have supplies for a make and take-home craft as well as snacks. Stop by for a bit or stay for the whole two hours. These activities are free of charge and designed for children ages 2 to 12. We ask that a parent or guardian stays with the child(ren).
We do require reservations by Monday, July 14. To RSVP contact the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985. We will meet at the Gabrielson shelter house near Sioux Rapids.
This event can be canceled due to inclement weather or lack of participants.
The Buena Vista County Conservation Board and Clay County Conservation Board are partnering up to celebrate World Snake Day on Wednesday, July 16. There are two come and go events happening that day. The first will be held at Gabrielson Park Shelter House in Buena Vista County from 10-11:30 a.m. The second will be held at Oneota Park in Clay County from 1-2:30 p.m.
Stop out to meet the education ambassador snakes, make a craft and participate in snake-themed activities. Both events are free of charge. No registration is required for either event as they are come and go.
Gabrielson Park Shelter House is located at 1322 440th St., Sioux Rapids. Oneota Park is located off 10th Avenue SE, south of the high school in Spencer.
Naturalist Lunch Box is held at 12 p.m. on selected Fridays in the summer at Storm Lake Marina. Pack a lunch and join the fun! Naturalist Lunch Box is designed for all ages. The naturalist will present a short program on a selected topic and have hands on activities for younger audience members.
Friday, July 18, at 12 p.m. will be the next Naturalist Lunchbox. The topic for this week is all about bats. Join us to learn all about Iowa’s nine kinds of bats.

Nature Sprouts is for children ages 2 to 5 years. It will be held once a month, May through October, at Storm Lake Marina. Each month will be a new theme and we will have story, crafts, snacks and hands-on activities to fit the theme.
The next Nature Sprouts will be on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m. Meet at the Storm Lake Marina patio. The theme for July is butterflies.
Nature Sprouts is free of charge. To register, call the conservation office at 712-295-7985 by Friday, July 18, at 4 p.m.
