Buena Vista County Conservation events: Nature Sprouts, Naturalist Lunch Box, Stretching with Turtles

Nature Sprouts

Nature Sprouts is for children ages 0-5 years. It will be held once a month, May through October at the Storm Lake Marina. Each month will be a new theme and we will have story, crafts, snacks and hands-on activities to fit the theme.

Our next Nature Sprouts will be on Tuesday, June 23 at 10 a.m. Meet at the Storm Lake Marina patio. The theme for June is baby animals. Nature Sprouts is free of charge. However, registration is required. To register, call the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985 by Friday, June 19, at 4 p.m. Storm Lake Marina is located at 207 W. Marina Road.

 

Naturalist Lunch Box: Amphibians

Summer has started and so has Naturalist Lunch Box programs. Naturalist Lunch Box is held at noon on select Fridays in the summer at Storm Lake Marina. Pack a lunch and join the fun! Naturalist Lunch Box is designed for all ages. The naturalist will present a short program on a selected topic and have hands on activities for younger audience members.

Friday, June 26 at 12 p.m. will be the next Naturalist Lunchbox program. The topic for this week is amphibians. We will learn all about amphibians in Iowa, meet the education frogs and salamanders, and make a craft. If you plan on attending, please let the Conservation Office know by Wednesday, June 24 at 4 p.m. by calling 712-295-7985. This program can be cancelled due to inclement weather or lack of participants.

 

Stretching with Turtles

Enjoy a beautiful morning at Gabrielson Park. Bring a mat or blanket to learn all about turtles and do some gentle stretching and movement. The live education turtles will be there, too.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30. It will be held at Gabrielson Park/Gustafson Lake beach area. Please park in the lower parking lot. Registration is required for this program. To register, please contact the Conservation Office at 712-295-7985 by Monday, June 29 by 4 p.m.

Gabrielson Park is located just south of Sioux Rapids on Highway 71. The address is 1322 440th St., Sioux Rapids.

This program can be cancelled due to inclement weather or lack of participants.
