Brent Michael Meyer was born on May 7, 1973, in Storm Lake to Jerry and Jeanine (Van Wyhe) Meyer. He attended Alta High School and graduated with the Class of 1991. Brent enlisted in the Army National Guard on June 11, 1990, proudly serving his country until receiving an honorable discharge on June 10, 2000.

In 1997, Brent and Scott officially joined the family farming operation alongside their father, Jerry, and together they built Bresco into the operation it is today. Brent knew farming wasn’t simply an occupation; it was a passion, a heritage and a way of life. Working side by side with his father and brother, he devoted countless hours to raising cattle and caring for the land he loved. There was no place he would rather be than on a tractor, in the field or behind the wheel pulling for local friends or Goettsch Dispatch & Grain.

On March 11, 2006, Brent married the love of his life, Lynn Tatman. Together they blended their families, with Brent’s children, Kimberly and Corey, and Lynn’s children, Gillian and Michael, becoming one family. Through life’s joys and its challenges, they stood together, and Brent was the steady rock they all leaned on. His quiet strength, unwavering work ethic and unconditional love provided the foundation that held his family together.

Of all the titles Brent held throughout his life, “Dad” and especially “Grandpa” were the ones he cherished most. Nothing brought him more joy than having his children and grandchildren by his side on the farm, riding on his lap in the tractor or semi, and sharing the simple moments that became lifelong memories. Whether working cattle, hauling grain or simply taking one more tractor ride, Brent’s happiest days were the ones spent with his family together, creating the legacy he hoped would live on for generations.

Brent believed in giving back to his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He proudly served as president of the Buena Vista County Fair Board, dedicated 10 years as a director for Northwest Iowa Classic Tractors and was an active member of Classic Green, Open Station Mafia and Western Iowa Pullers. Whether volunteering at an event or helping a neighbor, Brent was happiest when he was surrounded by people.

In 2017, Brent and Scott decided to follow in their dad’s footsteps and become part of the tractor pulling family. Together they built and campaigned their beloved John Deere 4440, competing throughout Northwest Iowa. Their dedication, countless hours in the shop, and love for the sport paid off when they were awarded 2023 Class Champions in the 11,700, 12,700, 13,700 and 14,700 pound classes. Tractor pulling wasn’t just a hobby, it was family, friendships and memories that Brent cherished. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the pull track, working on equipment, cheering on fellow competitors and visiting with the many friends he made along the way.

Brent unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, July 29, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, leaving a tremendous void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father Jerry Meyer; his parents-in-law, Shirley and James Tatman; his brother-in-law Jay Tatman; grandparents: Ronald and Edna Meyer, Peter and Helen Van Wyhe; and his aunts and uncles: Cal and Joy Johnson, Ralph and Shirley Van Wyhe, Don Van Wyhe, Milt and Judy Bauer and Mark Sorbe.

Left to cherish Brent’s memory are his loving wife Lynn Meyer of Alta; daughter Kimberly (Jake) Steffen of Alta; son Corey (Morgan) Meyer of Pleasant Hill; stepdaughter Gillian Beebe of Marshalltown; stepson Michael Schroeder of Marshalltown; his mother Jeanine Meyer of Alta; his brothers, Todd Meyer of Alta; and Scott (Katie) Meyer of Alta; his beloved grandchildren: Hunter, Charlotte and Henry Steffen of Alta; Tucker and Karter Meyer of Pleasant Hill; and Madalyn, Kashton, Alivia Beebe and Payton Verdulla of Marshalltown; along with many extended family members and countless friends whose lives were made richer by knowing Brent.

Brent will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his love for his family, his passion for farming and tractor pulling and his remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Though his time with us was far too short, his legacy will live on through his family, the land he loved and the countless lives he touched with his generous heart.
