Witter Gallery presents “Spectrums of Art,” an exhibition featuring two emerging artists from Buena Vista University: Isabel Lopez and Jack Huss. The exhibition highlights the intersection of fine art and art education through a diverse body of work that explores culture, identity, growth and community.
“Spectrums of Art” brings together two distinct artists paths. Isabel Lopez, a graphic design and studio art major with a minor in animation, presents work influenced by cultural identity, vibrant color palettes and reflective commentary on contemporary life. Her practice emphasizes visual storytelling through design and painting, blending personal experience with broader cultural themes.
Jack Huss, a K-12 art education major, presents work grounded in both studio practice and teaching experience. His work includes sculpture, ceramics and drawing, alongside memory-based portraits and pieces developed through lesson plans created during his student teaching. Huss’s work is informed by themes of memory, observation and the lived experiences of individuals within the community.
In addition to their collegiate work, the exhibition includes documentation of student artwork from Huss’s elementary and secondary classroom experiences. These works highlight the importance of art education in fostering creativity, confidence and personal expression among students at all developmental levels.
Spanning painting, drawing, graphic design, ceramics and sculpture, Spectrums of Art offer a wide-ranging view of artistic process and exploration. The variety of mediums reflects the artists’ individual background while emphasizing the shared role of art as a tool for communication and growth.
At its core, “Spectrums of Art” examine how art functions as both personal expression and educational change. By combining professional practice with student work, the exhibition bridges the gap between artist and educator, demonstrating how creativity develops through experience, mentorship and community engagement.
The public is invited to view “Spectrums of Art” at Witter Gallery. The exhibition reflects BVU’s commitment to supporting emerging artists and highlights the role of visual art in shaping identity and strengthening community connections.
