Arthur Edgar Lamoureux, 90, passed away peacefully on Sept. 14, 2025, at Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1207 Third St. Northeast, Belmond. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. prior to services at the church on Friday. Internment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Columbkille’s Cemetery in Varina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Belmond in Art’s name.
Art was born Feb. 11, 1935, to Leo and Evelyn (Edgar) Lamoureux near Varina. He grew up on a farm where he worked closely with his father and developed a love for the land. He graduated from St. Columbkille Catholic School in 1953.
Art was united in marriage to Joann Schnetter on June 15, 1954, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina. To this union eight children were born. He took great pride in his family. Joann passed away Feb. 2, 1973.
Art later married Regina McGowan at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. He farmed for over 50 years in the Varina area. After retiring from the Lamoureux family farm, he and Regina moved to Belmond, where he worked for an area farmer for another 15 years and was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
In addition to his unwavering faith and love for farming, Art also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, his pets and traveling. He was active in Knights of Columbus, earning the rank of 4th Degree Knight; he served on Varina City Council as well as the board of directors at the Marathon Farmer’s Coop Elevator. Art will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Regina of 52 years, and his eight children: Rhonda Burnside of Aurelia; Julie (Mike) Reilly of Council Bluffs; Roger (Paula) of Columbia, Mo.; Stan of Cherokee; Donna Christle of Marysville, Wash.; Wayne (Marty) of Boone; Craig (Beth) of Storm Lake; and Audrey (Matt) Morrey of Boerne, Texas; as well as 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister Cheri (Del) Connealy; sisters-in-law, Linda Lamoureux and Mary Arthur; brother-in-law John McGowan; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joann; his parents, Leo and Evelyn; daughter-in-law Teresa (Wayne); brother Larry; and sisters: Janet Lee, Yvonne (Charles) Higgins, Betty (Denis) Zigrang and Patty (Emmett) Hammen.
