Anita Ackerman

Anita Ackerman, age 63, of Storm Lake died Aug. 1, 2013 in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Anita Louise Wessman was born Sept. 17, 1949 in Laurens, the daughter of Richard and Arlene (Peterson) Wessman. As an infant, she was baptized at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was later confirmed in 1964.

She attended school in Albert City where she graduated from Albert City-Truesdale in 1967. While attending high school, she was active as a cheerleader. Following high school graduation, she attended Mankato Commercial College where she graduated in 1968 with a business degree.

On July 20, 1969, Anita was united in marriage to Nick Ackerman at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Andrea and Michelle.

Anita was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City where she was active in the Joanna Group and served as Women’s ELCA secretary. She was very dedicated to the church and was always willing to help out with whatever was needed at the church. She was a member of the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Board and the Albert City-Truesdale Foundation Board. She also was a member of the Truesdale Farmer’s Club.

Anita loved being on the farm where she took pride in yard work, decorating, and cooking. Taking care of her flower garden brought her much joy. She enjoyed collecting antiques and refinishing furniture. Anita had a passion for taking pictures and scrapbooking. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Anita cherished making memories with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Nick Ackerman of Storm Lake; children: Michael (Stephanie) Ackerman of Peosta; Michelle (Ben) McCollum of Maryville, Mo.; grandchildren: Trevor and Ethan Ackerman; Peyton and Tate McCollum; her parents, Richard and Arlene Wessman; brother, Tom Wessman of Albert City; sisters: Rosemary Cohoon of Norman, Okla.; Annette Boswell of Portland, Ore.; Dee Pearce of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Pat (Marc) Hagenson of Tempe, Ariz.; Linda (Bruce) Baier of Alta; several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; cousins; a host of neighbors and friends.

Anita was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, John and Wilma Ackerman; and her daughter, Andrea Louise Ackerman.
