Bonnie J. Lewis, 85, of Aurelia passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2024 at Accura Healthcare of Cherokee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 30, at Aurelia First United Methodist Church. Burial was in Afton Township Cemetery at Cherokee. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Aurelia First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in Bonnie’s honor.
Bonnie was born June 26, 1939m to George and Letha (Small) Smith at Cherokee. She attended Cherokee Schools, graduating in 1957. She was united in marriage Dec. 21, 1957, to Vernon Klumpp. They were blessed with three children: Kathryn, Michael and Christopher. On Dec. 24, 1987, Bonnie married Gary Lewis. They shared many happy years together until her death.
During her career, Bonnie worked for a number of local banks. At the age of 60, Bonnie pursued a career in real estate. She successfully passed the real estate license exam and worked as a Realtor in the area until her retirement in 2014.
She was a member of Aurelia First United Methodist Church. She was an active member in Aurelia Historical Society and ACC Club. Bonnie was especially proud of her family’s history in Cherokee County and the George A. Smith Farm’s designation as a Centennial Farm. Bonnie and Gary enjoyed many summers spending time at Lake Okoboji with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ed Smith and Floyd (Carlen) Smith; and sister Ruby Johnson.
She is survived by her husband Gary of Aurelia; daughter Kathryn (Steve) Warner of Gardnerville, Nev.; Michael (Jean) Klumpp of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Chris (Jerri) Klumpp of Aurelia. Bonnie was incredibly proud of her grandchildren: Nick Warner of Culver City, Calif.; Mikayla (Mason) Cain of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; John Klumpp of Des Moines; Kyle (Ali) Klumpp of Urbandale; AnneMarie (Gabe) Dannenbring of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Elisabeth (Matt) Fitzgerald of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Andrew Klumpp of Des Moines; and Geoffrey (Abi) Klumpp of Pocahontas; great-grandchildren: Kamryn and Kadyn Klumpp of Pocahontas. She is also survived by her stepson Kent (Becky) Lewis of Cherokee; and stepdaughter Kris (Phillip) Sargent of Muscatine; siblings: Doris (Russell) Grashoff of Cherokee; Roberta Radke of Alta; and John (Lynette) Smith of Cherokee; brother-in-law Larry Johnson of Cherokee; sister-in-law Patty Smith of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
