“I thought our press was very good all game long,” Newell-Fonda coach Chad Buchholz said. “We forced 29 steals for 42 total turnovers and also had 26 deflections. Our halfcourt defense was not good in the first half. We were not communicating and did not get matched up at all. It was just a lack of focus. That led to some easy shots for them.

“Offensively, we shared the ball extremely well again and got good looks,” Buchholz added. “We just struggled to finish around the rim with some contact and didn’t make our free throws. We went 4-for-14 in the first half from the free throw line. We came out of halftime and played much better. We were locked in mentally, focused, we communicated, and played with great energy. We went on a 25-2 run in the first 12 minutes of the second half.”
