Sylvia M. Strand, 79, of Storm Lake died Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Visitation will be held Monday, July 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta.
Sylvia Mae Strand was born Oct. 5, 1943 to Henry and Henrietta (Poel) Schoon in Milbank, S.D.
On June 15, 1968, Sylvia was united in marriage to Edward Lee Strand at a Lutheran Church in Des Moines. To this union, three children were born: Mike, Dave and Dan.
Most recently, Sylvia worked in housekeeping and laundry until her retirement in 2010. She was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Sylvia was a talented quilter and enjoyed being a member of St. Paul Lutheran Quilting Group. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and watching television. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Sylvia’s memory include her children: Mike (Lori) Strand of Sioux Rapids; Dave (Shannon) Strand of Alta; and Dan Strand of Alta; brother, Darrell (Luana) Schoon of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Shirley (Brad) Zahn of Brandon, S.D.; grandchildren: Cody (Mylea) Strand of Storm Lake; Kayla (Victor) Vazquez of Early; Kimberlee Strand of Norwalk; Zackery Sutton of Alta; Hailey Sutton of Alta; great-grandchildren: Emanuel, Ezequiel and Emiliano Vazquez of Early; and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Strand; parents, Henry and Henrietta Schoon; parents-in-law, Albin and Laura Strand; brother, Benard Schoon; sister-in-law, Shirley Schoon; sister, Grace Scheff; brother-in-law, Bob Scheff; sister-in-law, Faye Filmer; brother-in-law, Jim Filmer; sister-in-law, Gayle Ingram; brother-in-law, Ernie Ingram; sister-in-law, Donna Ingram; and great-grandchild, Aiden Strand.
