St. Mary’s finishes regular season by beating Siouxland Christian/Whiting

Storm Lake St. Mary’s scored five runs in the top of the first inning and the Panthers never looked back as they defeated Siouxland Christian/Whiting for the second time in five days 15-0 last Friday in Whiting.

St. Mary’s plated one run in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth.

The Panthers totaled 10 hits in the game. Aubrey Crum, Jenna Merten and Ruby Phelps all had two apiece to lead the way. Neely Bacon, Kielee Larson, Chelsey Gibbins and Peyton Phelps all added one hit.

Merten drove in three runs while Larson and Peyton Phelps each had two RBI. Bacon, Gibbins, Ruby Phelps and Isabelle Landgraf all had one RBI. Ruby Phelps scored four runs while Bacon scored three times and Crum twice.

Bacon was the winning pitcher. She allowed one hit, walked two and struck out 11 in four innings.

“We had an absolutely dominant performance in the circle from Neely Bacon,” St. Mary’s coach Peter Leo said. “Our hitters went to work early to get us the lead and we kept adding on each inning, which is what good teams do to put games out of reach. I’m proud of the way the girls competed. It was great for us to finish the season with a second win in a row.”
