Sioux Central baseball season ends in district loss

Okoboji used two big innings to end Sioux Central's season as the Pioneers scored seven runs in the second and six in the fourth to win 13-0 in the first round of the CLass 2A district tournament last Saturday in Emmetsburg.

Sioux Central did not record a hit in the game nor did the Rebels have a base runner.

Boden Bright suffered the loss. He allowed two hits and six runs, five of which were earned, walked three and struck out two in 11⁄3 innings. Konnor McKeever gave up seven hits and seven runs, walked two and struck out five in 22⁄3 innings of relief.

Sioux Central committed one error in the game.

“Okoboji’s pitcher did a good job of getting ahead in the count and making us hit his pitch,” Sioux Central coach Alan Vasher said. “We had some solid contact early on and did a good job of putting the ball in play hard, but not anything to show for it. Once they got some runs in the second inning, we put ourselves in a tough spot and had to fight.

“I’m really proud of the way we played all season, and the team had a good year,” Vasher added. “We were young, and that experience from this season will help us grow in the future.”

The Rebels finished their season 12-12.
