Sally Lines

Sally Lines, 86, of Sac City passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at her home.

Sally Jean (McKee) Lines was born on May 8, 1937, to parents Clarence and Martisha McKee in Gregory, S.D. She was baptized as a Methodist and attended elementary school in Gregory. She and her family resided on a farm outside of town. Sally graduated from Pierre High School in 1955 and then attended South Dakota State University. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from SDSU in 1959.

Sally met Milo Lines while attending college. The two were united in marriage on February 28, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Pierre, S.D. Following the wedding, the couple made their home in Sac City. This union was blessed with three daughters: Rochelle, Julie and Rhonda. Milo worked at their family-owned drug store and Sally as a registered nurse at Loring Hospital. The couple also owned and operated Noble Popcorn and The Scoop, both in Sac City.

It would seem Sally had three objectives for her life in Sac City. One, raise her three daughters to be independent and strong; second, give time to her community; and third, make sure she had some fun.

The first objective speaks for itself — just have a conversation with one of those girls. Second objective — she worked at Loring Hospital for 35 years in several roles including nursing, quality assurance and special projects. Some of the special projects: working with the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team, mentoring with the Ambulance Service in Sac County, establishing Loring Hospice Care and a leader in the nationally recognized Great Sac County Meltdown & Shape Up.

For the community she served on several boards and committees for the betterment of Sac City. A few to mention would be the public health board, Sac City City Council, Sac City Chamber of Commerce, Kids World volunteer board, and she was a member of the Methodist Church where she held many positions over the years.

The third objective was achieved by travel. Sally and Milo traveled as often as their schedules would allow. Many memories were made with travel partners, LaRue Schade and Ron Nelson. Into retirement, more memories were made with Sally’s brother Bob and his wife Maggie as they settled into a yearly trip to Texas for a few weeks away from the snow and ice. Sally loved to play a spirited game of bridge and before covid she was playing as much as possible with all the bridge players in town. Great friendships were formed in these bridge clubs.

Sally has a bunch of special friends that include retired employees of Loring. They meet monthly for lunch to keep in touch with each other’s lives. In that group exist a few ladies that have made some special memories with Sally, some that cannot be repeated in an obituary. One that can be repeated is the unforgettable convertible rides, playing “homecoming queen.” Imagine her daughters scooping the loop and passing their mother and her crazy friends being pulled over on the loop by the police. Fun objective, accomplished.

She loved her family dearly and spending time with them was very important to her. Having all three daughters living back in Sac City truly filled her heart. She was so proud of each and every one of them and had a very special place in her heart for her granddaughter, Alli. She will be so very missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Milo Lines of Sac City; daughters: Shelly Crump, Julie Lines and Rhonda Lines, all of Sac City; granddaughter, Alli Crump (fiancée Riley Paysen) of West Des Moines; sister Christy (Tyke) Nyberg; sisters-in-law, Connie McKee and Maggie McKee; brother-in-law Herb Auen; best friend LaRue Schade; many nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Martisha McKee; son-in-law Joe Crump; brothers, Lee McKee and Robert McKee; parents-in-law, Gilbert and Jane Lines; and sister-in-law Colletta Auen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 25, at Unity Church in Sac City, with Reverend Missy Erickson officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 24, from 4-6 p.m. at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
