Ruby Hollesen

Ruby Marie (Meyer) Hollesen, 88, of Hull died Monday, April 8, 2024, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, with Pastor Bryan Anderson officiating. The service will be live streamed at https://tabernaclechurch.com/live-stream. Following a luncheon after the service, burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park in Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the funeral service from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

It was Ruby’s request that memorials be directed to Tabernacle Baptist Church. Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley has been entrusted with funeral arrangements for Mrs. Hollesen. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Ruby Marie Meyer, daughter of Fred and Gladys (Holt) Meyer, was born at rural Webb, on Dec. 13, 1935. She graduated from Marathon High School, Class of 1954. On April 19, 1955, Ruby married her high school sweetheart, Jack Hollesen, at Marathon. The couple made their home in Alta from 1955-1965, then Sioux City from 1965-1992, and lastly made their home in Hull. Ruby and Jack were members of Tabernacle Baptist Church in George. Jack died Dec. 31, 2014.

Ruby’s life revolved around her faith, family and friends. She carried on an intense correspondence ministry with all the above. Her love for others was constantly on display.

Ruby is survived by her two sons: Don (Sunny) Hollesen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Paul (Charlene) Hollesen of Orange City; daughter Carol (Kelly) Boelsma of Ashton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gladys; older brother Paul; and younger sister Mary.
