Ron Rushton

Funeral services for Ronald “Ron” Rushton of Aurelia, formerly of Peterson, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at First Congregational Church in Peterson, with Pastor Tyler Thomsen officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Oakland Cemetery, rural Peterson. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with the family present on Tuesday at Aurelia Community Center. Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Ronald Robert Rushton was born Aug. 5, 1956, the son of Robert Ronald and Irma May (Vogel) Rushton at Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1975. Ron married Charlene Jacob, and together they had two children, Rhonda and Ronald, Jr.

On Nov. 25, 1989, Ron married Donna Raye Hoover, and they had three children, Stephanie, Jennifer and Robert. He worked for Tyson Foods in maintenance and maintenance supervisor for 25 years, worked maintenance for Fitzgerald for three years, then American Natural Processor in September 2009 and was still there.

Ron was a member of First Congregational Church in Peterson. He raced at BV Raceway for five years in the 1990s, was an umpire for state baseball for Pee Wee boys, girls softball, Little League Baseball and softball for 12-13 years, then was a track official at the BV Raceway in Alta for 5-6 years.

Ron died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at his home in Aurelia.

Preceding Ron in death were his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janet (Kracht) Hoover and Don (Bob) Hoover; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Aurelia; children: Rhonda Malloy of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Ronald Rushton, Jr. of Raeford, N.C.; Stephanie and husband Nickolas Sutton of San Antonio, Texas; Jennifer and husband Robert Cassatt of Moline, Ill.; and Robert and wife Jaynee Rushton of Primghar. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother-in-law Robert Miller; and sister-in-law Barbara Miller.
