Roger Meyer, 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 from lung cancer, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will take place Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roger was born on May 12, 1939 in Carroll, to Edward and Pearl (Reuter) Meyer. He graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1958 and married Kay on Jan. 30, 1963 in Odebolt. They lived in both Lake View and Storm Lake, and were blessed with four children: Steve, Scott, Shauna and Shane.

Throughout his career he was in the Army Active Reserve for eight years, worked at Wall Lake Lumber and was also a brick layer. He became a police officer in Storm Lake for the majority of his career from 1970 to 1998. In 1999, he began a job at the golf course and was employed there until the present.

Roger taught hunter safety for 40 years and also served on the Buena Vista County Conservation Board. In his free time, Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He enjoyed watching old Western movies and collecting golf balls. He was a big Twins fan and could always be seen in flannel shirts or camouflage. Roger was a great man who would give the shirt off his back to help others and will be missed by many.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife Kay; sons: Steve from Nampa, Idaho; Scott and wife Jane of Sioux City; Shane and wife Kerry of Newell; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: Susie Peterson, Matt Meyer and Leila Burgess.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Pearl Meyer; daughter Shauna; and sister Virginia Scalph.
