Phyllis Thayer

Phyllis Thayer, 89, of Storm Lake died Nov. 23, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Phyllis Thayer was born on Dec. 7, 1932 to John and Lorena (Gilson) Obman in Carroll. She was baptized as an infant. She later confirmed her faith in 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Phyllis attended school at Rembrandt High School, graduating in 1951. She was united in marriage to Don Thayer on Oct. 14, 1956 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with five children: Steven, Robert, David, Diane and Judy. Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are her children: Steven Thayer of Marathon; Robert (Teysa) Thayer of Elk Point, S.D.; David Thayer of Peterson; Diane (Kevin) King of Truesdale; Judy (Dan) Reis of Winterset; brothers: Kenneth Obman of Rembrandt; Richard (Eloise) Obman of Rembrandt; sister Donna Muilenburg of Okoboji; grandchildren: Dawn (Chris) Hiatt, Kim Thayer, Kristin Thayer, Kevin Thayer, Aaron Thayer, Randy McClurg and Cody Cariaga; great-grandchildren: Conner, Amelia and Olive; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Thayer; parents Lorena and John Obman; brother Dale Obman; siblings-in-law: Joan, Jean, Earl and Alice Sievers; grandchildren: Jeremy and Travis.
