Patricia "Patti" A. Hammen, wife of the late Emmett Hammen, 91, of Storm Lake passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 3-6 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. A parish vigil will be held at 5:15 p.m. with rosary to follow. Visitation will resume Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Patti was born on June 22, 1931 to Leo and Evelyn (Edgars) Lamoureux in Storm Lake. Patti attended Varina St. Columbkille Catholic High School, graduating in 1949. She's been member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Patti was united in marriage to Emmett F. Hammen on Sept. 17, 1949 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina. To this union, 11 amazing children were born: Carole, Brian, Jackie, Jerry, Steve, Kim, Greg, Pam, Barry, Lisa and Deanna. You could say there was never a dull moment in the Hammen household. Throughout Patti’s life she had various job titles but the best title she held was being a mom and wife. In her earlier years, she was always proud of her rose gardens but enjoyed all kinds of flowers. Patti was always ready to travel the world with the love of her life, Emmett, as they made memories across the world. She was an active reader of Karen Kingsbury books, loved to go to the movies, played Hand and Foot or 500 Rummy with her friends and family. Prior to retiring, Patti enjoyed volunteering at S.O.S in Storm Lake. After caring for her paralyzed husband for 10 years, she had more free time to enjoy the lake, which she loved. In 2019 she moved to Lake Pointe Villas where the residents and staff became her second family. In her final months, it was hard to tear her away from her western shows. Throughout her life anyone who knew her, knew the very most important things were her faith in the Lord and her family. Patti’s life was full and her passing leaves a void, but cherished memories bring a smile and warmth to our hearts. Patti will be greatly missed by her children: Carole (John) Sebben of North Liberty; Jackie (Bill) Wernimont of Neenah, Wis.; Jerry (Julie) Hammen of Fonda; Steve (Sue) Hammen of Schaller; Kim (Mike) Svejda of Mason City; Greg Hammen of Fort Dodge; Pam (Jay) Eike of Broomfield, Colo.; Barry (Shelly) Hammen of Alta; Lisa (Mark) Lauritsen of West Chester, Penn.; Deanna Langworthy of Omaha, Neb.; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one brother, Art (Jeanie) Lamoureux of Belmond; one sister, Cheri (Del) Connealy of Omaha, Neb.; and many more friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Emmett Hammen; son, Brian Hammen; grandson, Gary Hammen; parents, Leo and Evelyn Lamoureux; sisters: Yvonne Higgins, Betty Zigrang, Janet Lee Lamoureux; and one brother, Larry Lamoureux. The family of Patti Hammen would like to thank the staff of Lake Point Villas and all the St. Croix hospice team who provided such excellent care.
