Melva Brock

Melva D. Brock, 93, of Storm Lake died Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial followed in Storm Lake Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Melva Doris Brock was born Sept. 4, 1930, to Earl and Eva (Lawlor) Brock near Webb. The family moved to southern Indiana when she was six-years-old. She grew up attending grade school in Monroe City, Ind. The family then moved back to Iowa where she attended Ruthven High School and graduated in 1948.

On July 17, 1949, Melva was united in marriage to Dean Brock at her grandparents’ farmhouse near Dickens. They made their home in Sioux Rapids. In 1953, Dean and Melva were baptized and confirmed in their faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. They later moved to Storm Lake, where they resided for over 65 years. They were blessed with a daughter, Sheila.

Melva was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake,  participating in Mary & Martha, Ladies Aid, altar committee, meals on wheels and Bible classes.

She loved cooking and baking for family and friends. She is remembered for her love of hummingbirds and her porcelain shoe collection. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and music. She especially loved spending time with her family. Melva will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Eva Brock; sister Sylvia and her husband Donald Brock; brothers: Wesley Brock; Raymond and his wife Loretta Brock; sisters-in-law, Donlene Brock and LuVerne Brophy; nephew Donnie Brock; niece Doris Harvey; great-nephew Jason Brock.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Dean Brock of Storm Lake; daughter Sheila (Bruce) Cairns of Storm Lake; brother Eldon Brock of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law Opal Brock of Storm Lake; many treasured and beloved nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
