Mary Johnson, 94, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 6, at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Mary. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Mary Jane Smith was born Dec. 30, 1929 in Havelock, the daughter of Peter and Ruth (White) Smith. On Oct. 13, 1946, she was united in marriage to Marvin Johnson in Laurens. Mary was the head cook at Newell-Fonda Schools for over 35 years. Mary was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Newell for many years. She was a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for her children and after her retirement, she sewed clothes for American Girls Dolls.
Mary enjoyed craft shows and wintering in Texas. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children: Susan Christiansen of Ashton; Marilee (Delbert) Knerr of Columbia, Mo.; Marilyn Christiansen of Winfield; grandchildren: Chris (Rachel) Johnson, Jason (Vanessa) Johnson, Tyler (Sue) Johnson, Lynn (Jon) Bellows, Ona (Jeff) Johnson, Ami Steffen, Jared (Sarah) Knerr, Zachary (Jenna) Knerr, Caleb (Kelsie) Knerr, Amanda (Cody) Tennison, Jacob (Stephen) Knerr, Elizabeth (Cole) Scheetz, Grace Knerr and Kelsey (Mitch) Edwards; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Olsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; sons, Steve and William Johnson; sisters, Cora and Margaret; and brothers, Ben and Pete.
