Marie was born on March 22, 1924, at Carroll. Marie was the daughter of William and Mary (Brincks) Reineke. She grew up on a farm south of Carroll.
Marie was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. She attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Carroll.
Marie worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Carroll and as a nanny/housekeeper for Dr. Cockran in Carroll. On Sept. 16, 1947, Marie was united in marriage to Richard Nieland at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple lived in the Breda, Fonda and Varina areas until retirement when they moved to Storm Lake.
Together, Marie and Richard raised a large family of seven children who became their pride and joy. Raising seven children meant there was constant work and Marie devoted her life to being a homemaker and mother. She was an avid seamstress and made many of the clothes the children wore. Marie also enjoyed baking (she was known for her excellent apple pie), embroidery and her flowers. She always had a large garden, canned many jars of produce from the garden and crates of fruit, raised chickens, baked many loaves of bread and a daily dessert for the family.
After Richard passed, she belonged to a group of women called “We Care.” The group consisted of women who had lost their spouses and met once a month until age and death of members dissolved the group. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake.
Marie moved to Otsego Place in Storm Lake on April 22, 2017, the age of 93. Since September 2021, she has resided at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake until her death at 101.
