Lucille Dorothea Barber entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Nov. 9, 2024, in Wichita, Kan., at Wesley Medical Center after a short illness. She was 86 years old.
She will be interred in Storm Lake, beside her husband at Storm Lake Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Lucille was born April 23, 1938, in Storm Lake to Glenn and Dorothea Newell. She was the oldest of three children. She is survived by her brother Lester Newell; her twin daughters, Beth (Clinton) Easterday of Wichita, Kan.; and Becky (Andrew) Bear of Hanover, Maine; and her son Timothy (Shiela) Barber of Palisade, Colo.
She attended school in Storm Lake. She graduated high school in 1956, after which she went to college to learn secretarial skills. She worked as an executive secretary for several years.
On July 12, 1959, Lucille married Jack Barber. Jack was attending Minnesota Bible College at the time. Together they ministered in Iowa, Illinois and Colorado. Lucille was a very big part of their ministry; she joined Jack in furthering the Kingdom of God. Her greatest gift was teaching. Through the years she taught the Bible to hundreds of children. She taught Sunday school, junior church and youth group as well as counseled at Camp Christian in New Castle, Colo., and led vacation Bible school. She was very talented with a puppet ministry and had an extensive collection which she used in that teaching. She worked at Noah’s Ark Christian Preschool in Palisade, Colo., as a teacher.
Lucille loved sewing and doing crafts. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed for her family and friends. She loved stamping, making cards and making picture albums. She also enjoyed sitting at her craft table coloring or doing diamond art. She was an avid reader, reading close to 100 books as well as magazines a year.
Lucille leaves behind a legacy of Christian values, and a knowledge of the Bible, but most of all a personal faith in Christ which she passed on to her family and those around her.
Other members of her family who will cherish her memory include her grandchildren: Tia (Matt) Ashley, Samantha Ames, Joshua (Lacey) Easterday, Brian Barber, Daniel Moore, Brooke Barber, Thomas Moore, Colton Barber and Austin (Christina) Bear; as well as great-grandchildren; a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Barber; her parents Glenn and Dorothea Newell; and sister LeAnna Weeks.
