Lola Pauline Gordon, 104, of Storm Lake died on Oct. 18, 2022, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements.
Lola Pauline Gordon was born to Ernest and Lena Clark in Dow City on Jan. 25, 1918. She attended Dow City consolidated School from kindergarten through senior high. Pauline then attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years. She taught in Audubon County. Pauline was united in marriage to Marion H. Gordon. Together, they lived in Chicago, Des Moines and Storm Lake. She taught in Hayes and Storm Lake for many years.
Children were Pauline’s passion. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and the many second graders in her classroom of 27 years were the joy of her life. Pauline was recognized by Quint County Reading Council as Teacher of the Year in 1987. She volunteered in the schools and tutored in her retirement. She was honored twice by the governor for her work with children.
Pauline was on the city library board for six years and AAUW for 35 years. She was active in the United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and Bible Study. She was also on the Care Review Board of Methodist Manor and volunteered at the Hospital Gift Shop for many years. Pauline will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Pauline is survived by her son Clark (Nancy) Gordon; daughter Dawn (Jeff) Grove; three granddaughters: Lisa (Kevin) Madsen, Amy (Heath) Piercy and Sara (Michael) Mahncke; seven great-grandchildren: Matt, Mallory (Emerson), Marcus, Cole, Kiley, Caden and Karsyn; and two great-great grandchildren: Jack and Brooklynn.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Lena Clark; husband Marion H. Gordon; infant daughter Lola; and sister Maxine Cross.
