Lois Feldick, 92, passed away on Nov. 9, 2022 at Banner Health Hospital in Casper, Wyo., from complications from pneumonia. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake at a future date.
Lois Elaine Mayer, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Slasor) Mayer, was born on Aug. 27, 1930 in Owatonna, Minn. She attended elementary and high school in several locations in Minnesota and Georgia as a result of her father’s employment, and graduated from high school in Owatonna, Minn. in 1948. She continued her education at Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Sioux City, earning her nursing degree in 1951.
Lois began her medical career in 1951 in Buffalo Center as an OB/GYN nurse, subsequently helping deliver babies for over 30 years. She married Harris W. Feldick in Buffalo Center on Aug. 2, 1952.
In 1956, Lois, Harris and first child Craig moved to Osage, where Harris served as the hospital administrator. Lois continued helping bring babies into the world, including four more of her own: Steven, Jeffrey, Kathleen and Nathan. The family of seven moved to Storm Lake in 1968 where Harris served as Buena Vista County hospital administrator and Lois continued her nursing profession. Harris and Lois were divorced in 1985.
Lois enjoyed playing bridge and gin rummy, making handicrafts for family and friends, and travelling around the world to visit her children and grandchildren. After retiring from nursing in 1992, Lois traveled several times to Europe and Australia, as well as to most of the United States. She continued mentoring her children well into her senior years with such principles as: “Nothing good goes on after midnight,” “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” and “Because I said so!” Although never really grasping modern technology, Lois always knew exactly what time of night her children returned to her nest.
Lois left Storm Lake in September of 2016; spent a year in Durango, Colo., near her son Craig; and then moved into an assisted living apartment in Casper, Wyo. in August of 2017 near her son Steve and his family.
Lois is survived by son Craig and his wife Cele of Sydney, Australia; son Steve, his wife Sandi, and granddaughter Stephanie of Casper, Wyo.; daughter Kathy May, her husband Mark, and granddaughters Abra and Bryce of Mesa, Ariz.; and son Nathan, his wife Tess, and grandson Chase of Ashburn, Va.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and on the saddest day of her life, her son Jeff, at too early an age.
